As San Clemente finished a 14-11 victory over El Toro in the Southern Section Division I quarterfinals Tuesday at El Toro, one Triton, Brandon Boisseranc, could watch with only one eye.

He was holding a towel over the other one, having been knocked out of the game because of a cut on his eyelid in the fourth quarter. San Clemente Coach Marc Parker said Boisseranc was punched by an El Toro player. El Toro Coach Don Stoll said that’s not what happened, although he declined to elaborate.

There’s no disputing, however, that Boisseranc was one of the main reasons unseeded San Clemente (20-7) knocked off the third-seeded Chargers (20-8) to advance to Saturday’s semifinal against Foothill.

Boisseranc, a senior known for his defense, had three goals, two steals and three assists. His final assist was his final play of the game.

Boisseranc was hurt when San Clemente was on offense, and when El Toro took possession, he was in so much pain that he didn’t make it back on defense. The Chargers essentially had a man-advantage opportunity, but Parker Boone’s shot was blocked by D.J. Yeilding.

Boisseranc received the outlet pass on the counterattack and flipped to Colin Shaughnessy, who gave the Tritons a 13-10 lead with 2 minutes 52 seconds left.

Shaughnessy, who scored three goals, was ejected for arguing with the officials about the alleged punch to Boisseranc. Because it was his third of the game, he fouled out.

But El Toro, the Sea View League champion, failed to score on the man advantage. With 1:46 left, Matt Sakatani scored off a pass from Trevor McMunn to make it 13-11. Then with 35 seconds left, Sakatani’s shot hit the post. Yeilding scored on an open-net goal with 29 seconds left for the final margin.
