Reagan Library Team Loses to Nixon Rivals

In the end, not even voodoo could help the Reagan Library Reaganomics softball team overcome their Republican rivals, the Nixon Library Warblers, during their first-ever match.

The Warblers, named for a defining moment in the Alger Hiss case, bested the Reaganomics, 13-11, on Sunday.

“The lead went back and forth and back and forth,” said Moorpark resident Greg Cumming, 32, left fielder for the Reaganomics.

“This is just round one,” the archivist said. The Reaganomics of Simi Valley will play the Warblers of Yorba Linda again in May.

Although neither Reagan nor Nixon was known as a man of compromise, the teams did agree on playing at a location midway between the two presidential libraries--Lacy Park in San Marino. The Reaganomics, comprising archivists, groundskeepers, maintenance workers and other men and women who staff the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley have one win and 15 losses during their two years as a team.

Despite this record, Cumming said he was confident about the Reaganomics’ ability to beat at least one possible rival.

“Of course, we’d beat the Carter Library,” he said.
