Key to the match--The Oilers are looking for their first state volleyball title after finishing as runners-up in 1994 to Mountain View St. Francis. They have dropped only one game in seven playoff matches this season--when they defeated Santa Barbara in four games to win the Southern Section Division II-AA title. Huntington Beach was top seeded in the Southern Region and defeated Westlake Village Westlake in the Southern Regional final to advance to the state final. Napa is led by Franco, the Monticello Empire League player of the year the past two years. Franco also is the daughter of Coach Barbara Franco. Napa was seeded No. 1 in the Northern Region and defeated third-seeded Mountain View St. Francis in the Northern Regional final.

Key to the match--This is a battle of perennial small school powers. With its fifth appearance, Linden ties Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, Newport Harbor and Atherton Sacred Heart Prep for most appearances in the state finals. Linden won the 1990 Division III title and finished second three times, in 1988 and ’89 in Division III and last year in Division IV, when it lost to Calvary Chapel. The Eagles won in four games last season to win their second consecutive Division IV title. Calvary Chapel was the top-seeded team in the Southern Section Division IV-A tournament but lost to Cerritos Valley Christian in the final. Calvary Chapel defeated Bakersfield Garces, Tuesday, in the Southern Regional final to advance to its fourth consecutive state final.
