Hearvey Leads Irvine Valley Past Grossmont

Brandon Hearvey made 12 of 15 field goals, scoring 26 points as host Irvine Valley defeated Grossmont, 90-70, Friday in nonconference men’s basketball.

The Lasers (11-3) hit 69% of their field goals in the first half to take a 54-29 halftime lead. Hearvey had 19 points in the first half.

Daryl Todd had 16 points, including four three-pointers. Danny English led Grossmont (5-7) with 29 points and nine rebounds.

Saddleback 79, MiraCosta 59--With the score tied, 10-10, Saddleback went on a big run in the first half to take a 33-18 advantage at halftime.

The Gauchos went on another run in the second half to increase their lead to 63-31.

Sophomore guard Brian Perkins hit five of seven from three-point range and finished the game with 19 points. Sophomore center Lief Kemp had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Saddleback (7-6).

Michael Riggins made six assists and scored eight points for Saddleback.

Conan Moore scored 15 points and made three-pointers for MiraCosta (3-7).

Nick Alexander also had 10 points for MiraCosta.

Perkins and MiraCosta’s Jerrod Triba each received a technical foul.

In the Coast Christmas women’s basketball classic:

Fullerton 76, Southwestern 37--Michelle deBruijn scored a game-high 14 points to lead Fullerton (6-5) in a first-round game. The Hornets went on a 27-3 run to take a 44-11 halftime lead.

DeBruijn also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for Fullerton. Lauren Murphy had 13 points, six assists and five steals and Nadia Hoerner scored 10 points and had four blocks.

Angie Baca scored 11 points for Fullerton.

Erica McClelland scored 12 points for Southwestern (1-10).

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Cypress 61, College of the Desert 50--Linda Rodriguez led Cypress (10-4) with 20 points and Holly Pawlowski had 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Cypress rallied from a five-point deficit at halftime, outscoring Desert, 40-24, in the second half.
