Eagles Dump Sailors With 8-Run Fourth

Santa Margarita, the eighth-ranked team in the county, used an eight-run fourth inning to defeat Newport Harbor, 10-4, in the championship game of the Red and White Division of the Pride of the Coast tournament at Corona del Mar High School Wednesday.

Matt Strickroth gave Santa Margarita (12-2) a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the first inning and drove in two more runs in the fourth with a two-run double. Josh Dunlap also contributed at the plate with a three-for-four performance and one run batted in.

Tim Keefe (3-0) pitched five innings and held Newport Harbor (5-7) to two runs on two hits.

In the championship game of the Blue Division:

Bolsa Grande 7, Laguna Beach 1--Adam Corona hit a two-run double in the third inning to score Joey Francisco and Issac Gonzalez to start Bolsa Grande’s run. Francisco stole his 18th base of the season. Winning pitcher Gus DeLeon went the distance with a two-hitter and six strikeouts. Bolsa Grande is 11-4.

In the third-place game:

Corona del Mar 9, Costa Mesa 0--Matt Larson (1-1) scattered four singles and struck out eight, and Evan Schiff had three hits, including a solo home run, and scored three runs for Corona del Mar (5-6-1).

In the fifth-place game:

Fountain Valley 11, Upland 4--Cameron Nielsen (5-1) struck out 10 batters in five innings and Tim Crosby had three hits and scored three runs for fourth-ranked Fountain Valley (9-5).

In seventh-place games:

Long Beach Millikan 8, Woodbridge 3--Saul Wolfe of Woodbridge had two hits and two RBIs.

San Clemente 10, Los Angeles Loyola 8--Ben Adair’s two-run homer in the fourth tied the score, 8-8, and the Tritons then pushed ahead with another run in the inning and one more in the fifth. Adair drove in five runs and scored two for San Clemente (6-7).

In the Santa Ana Elks Tournament:

Cerritos Valley Christian 8, Century 0--Valley Christian’s Kirk Saarloos hit his third home run in the tournament, scored three runs, and also pitched a complete game, striking out seven and walking none.

Los Amigos 9, Santiago 8 (8)--Adam Adkisson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Jose Rodriguez with the winning run in the top of the eighth inning for Los Amigos (5-8). Rodriguez was three for four with three runs scored and two RBIs and Chris Chaires was four for four with one run scored and an RBI for the Lobos. Eddie Rodriguez was three for four with a home run and two RBIs and a run scored for Santiago (2-12).

Villa Park 1, Orange 0--Greg Beaumarchais laid down a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Ryan Ferguson with the winning run for Villa Park (5-8). Jason Spainhower (3-1) pitched a three-hitter, struck out one and walked one for the Spartans. Brett Sewell pitched a three-hitter, walked one and struck out five for Orange.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 8, Sonora 0--Buena Park’s Alex DeAnda (1-2) pitched a three-hitter to shut out seventh-ranked Sonora. Richie Pohle had three hits and three RBIs, Bryan Cook had three hits and three runs scored and Cesar Carrillo and Ernie Jaime each had two hits for the Coyotes (8-5, 3-1).

Troy 4, La Habra 3--Reggie Dominguez hit a bases-loaded double, driving in three runs in the first inning for Troy (3-8, 2-2). Rich Saul pitched a complete game, striking out seven for La Habra (2-2 in league).

In third-place game of the Wienerschnitzel Big West Tournament:

Servite 12, Trabuco Hills 0--Ryan Garko, who was three for three, hit a grand slam in the fifth inning for Servite (12-2).
