Woodbridge Gets Past Sea Kings

Top-ranked Woodbridge won eight of nine singles sets and defeated No.4 Corona del Mar, 14-4, in a Sea View League boys’ tennis match Tuesday at Woodbridge.

David Lingman, who just returned from last weekend’s Easter Bowl Tournament in Miami, swept his sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-1, and Adam Artunian also swept, 6-0, 6-0, 7-6, for the Warriors (10-0, 2-0).

Brandon Shainfeld and Greg Levy produced a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 sweep in doubles for Woodbridge.

In another Sea View League match:

Santa Margarita 12, Irvine 6--Andrew Tsu swept in singles, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for third-ranked Santa Margarita (12-0, 2-0).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 12 1/2, Loara 8 1/2--Michael Peng, who has not lost a game in his last five matches, won in singles, 6-0, 6-0, then teamed with Charles Dao for a 6-0 victory in doubles for sixth-ranked El Dorado (12-0, 3-0).

In the Golden West League:

Servite 12, Saddleback 6--Joe Ganahl and Devin Haverland swept in doubles, 6-0, 6-3, 7-6, for Servite (11-3, 3-0).

In the the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 10, Capistrano Valley 8--Brandon Fallan battled an elbow injury by serving underhand to win two out of three, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, for second-ranked Dana Hills (8-1, 1-0).

San Clemente 11, Trabuco Hills 7--Jason Gavilan swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, and Landon Yaple, 6-0, 7-5, 6-3, for San Clemente (5-6, 1-0).

In the Sunset League:

Los Alamitos 15, Fountain Valley 9--Cody Jackson swept in singles, 6-0, 6-0, for eight-ranked Los Alamitos (8-1, 2-0). Teammate Ed Huang also swept, 6-1, 6-0. Jackson and Huang won in doubles, 6-1.

In Century League baseball:

Canyon 8, El Modena 1--Tommy Duarte had two hits and two runs batted in, Jason Reuss had two hits, including a two-run homer, and Jason Corapci had two hits, stole two bases and scored two runs for fourth-ranked Canyon (12-3, 4-0).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 5, University 0--Wes Thomas pitched a four-hit shutout to improve his record to five wins without a loss for Aliso Niguel (9-5, 4-0). Scott Esecson provided the bulk of Aliso Niguel’s offense with a three-run double in the sixth.

In Pacific Coast League golf:

Aliso Niguel 206, Estancia 216--Andrew Lin, Ryan Schuyler and Matt Diotte each shot a three-over par at Mesa Verde (par 36) as Aliso Niguel defeated defending Pacific Coast League champion Estancia (7-1, 2-1). The Wolverines are 3-1 in league, 9-2 overall.

University 185, Costa Mesa 255--Ron Won shot a three-under 33 despite missing a 12-inch putt for birdie on the final hole for fourth-ranked University (8-0, 3-0) at Rancho San Joaquin,

In nonleague softball:

Century 2, Magnolia 1--Dawn Lopez (6-1) struck out seven enroute to a three-hit, one run pitching stint for Century (9-1).

In Sea View League boys’ volleyball:

Corona del Mar 3, Irvine 1--Blair Hoppe had 17 kills as Corona del Mar defeated 10th ranked Irvine (0-1 in league), 15-12, 4-15, 15-9, 17-15. The seventh ranked Sea Kings are 4-1, 1-0 in league.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 3, Edison 0--Top ranked Huntington Beach had little trouble with fifth-ranked Edison, winning in three games, 15-4, 15-11, 15-8. Huntington Beach is undefeated at 7-0, 1-0.
