St. Francis Gets Teed Off, Upsets Alemany by 1 Shot

St. Francis High handed defending Mission League golf champion Alemany its first loss of the season, 220-221, on Tuesday in a nine-hole match decided by the scores of the sixth golfers at Chevy Chase Country Club in Glendale.

Daniel Imm of St. Francis and Chuck Ruiz of Alemany (12-1, 8-1 in league play) shared medalist honors at even-par 33.

Riley Marshall of St. Francis and Brian Woolf of Alemany were one shot behind.

Tom Bellissimo, the sixth golfer for St. Francis (7-9, 4-6), shot 41.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Van Nuys d. Reseda, 15-6, 15-5, 15-8--Hector Marquez had 10 kills for the Wolves (9-2, 7-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Reseda.

Harvard-Westlake d. St. Francis, 15-13, 15-3, 15-8--Trevor Julian had 19 kills and Jimmy Strickland added 12 for the Wolverines (8-3, 7-1) in a Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.

Ed Stanislawski had 10 kills for St. Francis (6-6, 3-5).

Grant d. Sylmar, 15-13, 15-6, 15-11--Eric Gallarza had 18 kills for the Lancers (9-2, 6-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.

Buena d. Rio Mesa, 15-5, 15-8, 15-7--Matt Prosser had nine kills for the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-3) in a Channel League match at Buena.

Bell-Jeff d. Flintridge Prep, 13-15, 12-15, 15-8, 15-8, 15-11--Marcos Flores had 33 kills for the Guards (11-5, 8-1) in a Santa Fe League match at Bell-Jeff.

Greg Revell had 65 kills for the Rebels (9-6, 5-4).

BOYS’ TRACK

St. Francis 66, Crespi 61--Darius Brown won the 100 meters in 11.4 seconds, the 200 in 23.6 and anchored the winning 400 relay team for the Golden Knights in the Mission League meet at Crespi.

Scott Palic defeated Crespi’s Richie Walker and Dennis Fox in the high jump--the final event of the meet--with a 6-foot clearance to clinch the victory for St. Francis.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Burbank 15, Hart 3--The No. 1 doubles team of Scott Anderson and Anthony Knight ran their season record to 34-1 and the Bulldogs (10-4, 5-0) swept doubles play in the battle for first place in the Foothill League match at Hart.

Granada Hills 4, Taft 3--Brothers Thomas and Kevin Kim won the deciding match at No. 3 doubles and the Highlanders (9-4, 6-3) clinched their second consecutive Northwest Valley Conference title at Taft.
