Tran Paces Highlander Sweep

Chris Tran had eight kills and three blocks to help top-seeded Granada Hills High sweep San Pedro, 15-9, 15-3, 15-5, in the City Section 4-A Division boys’ volleyball quarterfinals Friday night at Granada Hills.

Paul DiSimone added seven kills and three blocks for the Highlanders (15-0). San Pedro finished 12-3.

In City Section 3-A Division quarterfinals:

Grant d. Garfield, 15-6, 15-7, 15-9--Nathan Deck had seven kills and seven blocks and Steven Ross had seven kills and five blocks for the Lancers (10-2), who served well and dominated the net at Grant.

Ness Prutman served 10 points, including three aces for the Lancers.

Eagle Rock d. Sylmar, 15-7, 15-3, 15-9--Andy Rivera had 19 kills and Albert Coba had 41 assists for the Eagles (15-0) at Eagle Rock.

In Southern Section matches:

Thousand Oaks d. Agoura, 15-5, 15-6, 15-10--John Penfield had seven kills and Shane Maguire added six for the Lancers (12-2, 12-2) in a Marmonte League match at Agoura.

Royal d. Channel Islands, 15-4, 15-3, 15-6--Marc Chaffee had 13 kills in 16 attempts and Nick Flanagan had 11 kills to lead the Highlanders (16-0, 14-0) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.

John Baxter had 29 assists for Royal.

Harvard-Westlake d. Crespi, 7-15, 15-10, 12-15, 15-9, 15-7--Steve McNiel served 12 points, including three aces, and Trevor Julian had 39 kills for the host Wolverines (11-4, 8-2), who finished second in the Mission League.

Crespi (8-8, 6-6) finished third.

St. Francis d. Chaminade, 15-4, 15-5, 15-5--Ed Stanislawski had six kills and six blocks for the Golden Knights (9-8, 5-7) in the Mission League match at St. Francis.

Highland d. Antelope Valley, 15-6, 15-13, 15-12--Tom Haight had 23 kills, eight digs and seven blocks to help the visiting Bulldogs (13-1, 10-0) complete their fourth consecutive unbeaten Golden League season.

Providence d. Pasadena Poly, 15-11, 9-15, 15-9, 15-8--The Pioneers (16-0) completed their second consecutive unbeaten regular season in a nonleague match at Providence. D.J. Petcharamuk had 17 kills and 12 digs to lead Providence.
