In other high school water polo games:

La Canada 9, South Pasadena 7--The Spartans (22-5, 6-0) ended South Pasadena’s 10-year reign as Rio Hondo League champion by winning the league tournament final at South Pasadena.

Brenden Naeve scored three goals and Michael McDay, Charlie Chang and Dutch Turley each had two goals for La Canada, ranked second in Division III.

Harvard-Westlake 7, Los Alamitos 6--Peter Hudnut and Mike Crosby each scored two goals to help the host Wolverines (20-4) beat the top-ranked team in Division II in a nonleague game.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Ventura 8, Saddleback 6--Bill Bruininga and Zack Britton each scored a goal in the first of two overtime periods to give the seventh-seeded Pirates (25-9) a Southern California Regional playoff victory at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

Ventura earned its first berth in the state tournament in the program’s 26-year history.

MEN’S GOLF

Long Beach State tournament--Tim Wren of Cal State Northridge shot a third-round score of 69 to finish at even-par 210, good for fourth place at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.

Wren, who shot 71 and 70 in the first two rounds, led Northridge to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.
