For the second consecutive week, some of Orange County’s top water polo teams will be competing in tournament play beginning at 3 p.m. today at Villa Park, Esperanza, Canyon and Trabuco Hills high schools.
The Villa Park tournament, a three-day contest that concludes Saturday, will offer top play from some of the county’s top-ranked teams. Leading the way will be third-ranked Costa Mesa, which had a good showing last week at the South Coast tournament. Other ranked teams competing are: Laguna Beach (No. 5); Capistrano Valley (No. 6); Villa Park (No. 8) and Santa Margarita (No. 9).
Friday play starts at 3 p.m. and the championship final is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at Villa Park High.
No. 1 San Clemente and No. 2 Foothill will meet Friday at Saddleback College in a rematch of last week’s semifinal game of the South Coast tournament. In that game, the Tritons won in sudden-death overtime. The game starts at 5 p.m.
