Little League Manager Gattis a Loser? Not by a Longshot

Share

Enough already! Will all you Times readers please stop slinging mud at Little League Manager Jim Gattis long enough to hear what the kids on his team think of him? They think he’s great. They love him. They love playing baseball with him. They understand what he says to them. They don’t think he’s said or done anything wrong. So stop criticizing him.

The kids think Jim is great and that’s what really counts. It’s their all-star season, not yours. Don’t muck it up for them.

I am deeply saddened to see negative comments about Jim Gattis, coach of the South Mission Viejo Little League/U.S. Champion All Stars in your newspaper. Neither reporters nor your readers know Mr. Gattis.

I know Jim Gattis. He and I have coached together, including several early games with the All Stars. Mr. Gattis is not only a once-in-a-lifetime coach, he is also a once-in-a-lifetime person. He is sincere and considerate to players and parents.

I can give no greater homage to Mr. Gattis than to say that my family would be proud to see him coach my boys for the rest of their young athletic careers. Shame on you for allowing your readership to think otherwise with inappropriate headlines and misinterpreted quotes.
