1996 in Review

Foothill clinched its third league title in four seasons with a convincing victory over Canyon in the regular-season finale. Both teams entered the game with 4-0 league records, but Foothill’s Franklin Haynes rushed for 185 yards to lead the Knights, who held the Comanches to 30 yards of offense.

Foothill boasted the league’s top quarterback and running back. Tyler Lang completed 55% of his passes for 2,025 yards and 24 touchdowns and Haynes rushed for 1,615 yards and 14 touchdowns.

El Modena clinched third place with a 15-14 victory over Villa Park in the final week, stopping the Spartans at the Vanguard 33 with less than a minute remaining. Canyon finished second behind the twin-brother combination of quarterback Craig and wide receiver Chad Scott.

Villa Park’s Dache Dameron rushed for 1,113 yards, but the Spartans lost five of six games decided by seven points or less.
