Roy Records Third Shutout for UCI Women

Freshman goalkeeper Kirsten Roy recorded her third shutout of the season as UC Irvine beat Pittsburgh, 3-0 in the Nike UCI women’s soccer invitational Friday night.

Nicole Bucciarelli scored her sixth goal of the season in the first half at the 23-minute 43-second mark with an assist from Michelle Kaping at Anteater Field. Stephanie Rigamat, a freshman, scored in the second half at 51:58 on assist from Bucciarelli and Danica Hold. Laura Lamb closed out the scoring the 74-minute mark.

The Anteaters play No. 15 Brigham Young at 2 p.m. today. BYU beat Oregon, 1-0, in an earlier game.

In other nonconference women’s soccer:

USC 6, Cal State Fullerton 0--Marina graduate Megan Orach scored three goals and former El Modena standout Kaylee Whitfield scored twice for USC (6-1). The Titans are 3-5.

In the St. Mary’s men’s soccer Fall Classic:

St. Mary’s 1, UC Irvine 0--Seth Alberico scored the game winner at the 82-minute mark. Tyler Reid had five saves for UCI (1-3-2).

In men’s golf:

Anteaters tied for 17th--UC Irvine had a team score of seven-over par and was tied for 17th with Georgia after the opening round of the William H. Tucker Tournament at the University of New Mexico championship course in Albuquerque.

Texas El Paso leads the tournament with a first day total of eight under par.
