Splash Hits Road for First Round of Playoffs

The Continental Indoor Soccer League announced Friday that none of the first-round playoff games between the Splash and the Sacramento Knights would be played at the Pond because of scheduling and travel conflicts.

However, nobody from the league apparently bothered to inform the Splash Friday.

Splash General Manager Steve Samaha said he was surprised to learn of the league’s decision. “It would have been nice if they had shared that information with us,” Samaha said. “I assume that they talked with someone at the Pond about the dates, but I don’t know.”

The league announced that the games will be played Oct. 6 and 7 at Arco Arena in Sacramento.

“I still want to confirm this with the league,” Samaha said. “I’ll have to get with them on Monday and find out what’s going on. I’m concerned that an announcement like that is made by the league and Sacramento, and we’re not apprised of it. If that’s the case, we’d be disappointed we don’t have one of the games at home.”

The first round is a best-of-three series with the third game, if necessary, a 20-minute mini-game immediately after Game 2.

The Splash (15-12) leads Sacramento (14-12) by a half-game for second place in the Western Division. The two teams split their regular-season series, each winning two games.

CISL officials could not be reached Friday night for comment.
