San Juan Breaks Hart Streak

Hart High finally lost a game.

The Indians lost to Citrus Heights San Juan, 4-0, in the semifinals of the Sierra Foothill baseball tournament in Rocklin on Wednesday, but recovered to win the third-place game against Roseville Oakmont, 11-2.

In the first game, Travis Richardson and Ryan Haag hit doubles for Hart (16-1), ranked No. 1 in The Times’ regional poll, but three errors by the Indians proved costly.

Andy Davidson (7-1) struck out seven batters for Hart and gave up only one earned run.

In the second game, Jeff Gaeta had two hits and two runs batted in for the Indians.

Brian Barrios added two hits and an RBI.

Westlake 15, Las Vegas Bonanza 8--Joey Cuppari had four hits and four RBIs and Scott Dragicevich had three hits, including a first-inning home run for the Warriors (7-5) in a victory at the Durango tournament in Las Vegas.

Mike Alba of Westlake pitched four innings, striking out seven.

Thousand Oaks 4, Bingham (Utah) 1--Shea Johnson hit a three-run home run in the first for the Lancers in the Scottsdale tournament.

The Lancers (12-2-1) won their pool with a 2-1 record and advanced to the semifinals today.

Tracey Goebel (3-0) allowed one hit, struck out seven and walked five in five innings.

Ramona 5, Quartz Hill 3--Chad Spencer pitched a seven-hitter and allowed two earned runs but the Rebels fell in a consolation game in the Pomona tournament.

Jeremy Elkins had two hits and an RBI for Quartz Hill (9-5).

Arcadia 11, Palmdale 1--Chris Testa’s double was one of only three hits by the Falcons (10-4) in a loss at the Pomona tournament.

Harvard-Westlake 6, Hoover 3--John Neyer’s single scored Matt Berkson to give the Wolverines (7-7) the winning run gave during a four-run seventh inning in the Babe Herman tournament.

Billy Bell gave Hoover (4-5-1) a 3-2 lead with a three-run home run with two out in the bottom of the third inning.

Camarillo 11, Santa Barbara 10--Shane Miranda’s two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning gave the Scorpions a victory in the Dos Pueblos tournament game.

Oxnard 12, Lompoc 8--Mario Castro had four hits, including two triples, and scored two runs to help the Raiders (4-3-1) win in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Oxnard.

Lancaster 2, Fullerton 0--Frankie Rosado hit a solo home run, his fifth of the season, in the third-place game of the Anaheim Lions tournament.

Eric Sundberg had three hits, including a run-scoring triple for Lancaster (9-4).

Peninsula 12, Rio Mesa 6--Paul Ayala and John Ramirez each had two hits, but the Spartans (8-4) fell in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Santa Barbara City College.

Moorpark 5, Buena 4--Chris Stoddard hit two home runs, including the game-winner with two out in the seventh inning at Buena.

Stoddard hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to bring the Musketeers to within 4-3.

Wes Rasmussen hit a solo home run in the fifth for Moorpark, which overcame a 4-0 deficit.

Moorpark 2, Ventura 0--Matt Norris scored from third base on an errant pickoff throw in the sixth inning and added a run-scoring single for the Musketeers in the seventh at Ventura.

Alhambra 8, Village Christian 0--Josh Marino had a double, the only extra base hit for the Crusaders (2-9), in a Babe Herman tournament defeat at Stengel Field.

Glendale 5, Upland 4--Gabriel Chavez squeezed home the winning run with one out in the sixth inning of a Babe Herman tournament game at Glendale.

Art Cordova’s run-scoring triple highlighted a four-run third-inning for Glendale (5-8-1).

Lompoc 5, Hueneme 4--Rigo Garcia and Miguel Bravo each had two hits as the Vikings (7-4) lost in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Hueneme.

Hueneme 14, Channel Islands 4--Francisco Camarena had three hits and three RBIs for the Vikings (8-4) in a game halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Hueneme.

Rigo Garcia had three hits for Hueneme (8-4).

Peninsula 12, Rio Mesa 6--Paul Ayala and John Ramirez each had two hits, but the Spartans (8-4) lost in the Dos Pueblos tournament at Santa Barbara City College.

SOFTBALL

Providence 19, Buckley 0--Chrissy Koeth had five RBIs for Providence in a Liberty League opener at Olive Park.

Carly Cabrera and Jessica Franco each had four hits and four RBIs for Providence (7-2).

San Fernando 26, Birmingham 0--Anna Marie Herrera, Michelle Rigoza, Betty Zuniga, Crystal Vega and Alex Garcia each had two hits for the Tigers (13-7, 3-1), who won a Northwest Valley Conference game called after six innings by the 10-run rule at Birmingham.

Paraclete 5, Crossroads 1--Alena Valdez had two hits for the Spirits in a victory at Paraclete (6-4-2).
