Servite’s Moore Seeded Second in Singles

Servite senior Ryan Moore is seeded second in the boys’ interscholastic singles draw at the 98th Ojai tennis tournament, which begins today.

Moore, who won the Southern Section singles championship last year, will open against Gavin Kerr of Moreno Valley Canyon Springs. Moore was eliminated from last year’s Ojai tournament in three sets by this year’s top-seeded player, Jose Lieberman of Beverly Hills.

Other top county players in the singles draw are Los Alamitos’ Cody Jackson, Esperanza’s Tom Lloyd, Dana Hills’ Javier Carillo, Laguna Beach’s Aaron Talarico, Corona del Mar’s Parker Collins, Woodbridge’s Adam Artunian, Sunny Hills’ Joseph Kao, La Quinta’s Robert Chu and University’s Greg Biorkman.

Top teams in the interscholastic doubles draw include Dana Hills’ Jon Lippert and Blake Wilson-Hayden, Corona del Mar’s Sameer Chopra and Cameron Taylor, Edison’s David Pratesa and Ryan Sakoda and Sunny Hills’ Tuji Chang and John Choi and Ryan Sakoda.

In the boys’ 16 singles, Corona del Mar freshman Brian Morton and Los Alamitos freshman Drew Hoskins are two of the top players. Other junior events include boys’ 14 singles, girls’ 18 singles and doubles, girls’ 16 singles and girls’ 14 singles.

The girls’ 16 singles figures to be one of the more competitive events with Corona del Mar’s Caylan Leslie and Nadia Vaughan, Mater Dei’s Melissa Esmero, Villa Park’s Arpi Kojian, Dana Hills’ Amber Tantee and Saddleback’s Kim Nguyen. Also in the division are Capistrano Valley’s Jennifer Bailey and Newport Beach’s Alexandra McGoodwin.

Junior events run through Saturday. The Pacific 10 and Big West conference championships begin today and conclude Sunday, as do the community college, small college and open divisions.
