Sullivan, La Reina Win Honors in Scholastic Equestrian Show

Mickey Sullivan of Thousand Oaks Hillcrest Christian High was the individual high-point champion and La Reina High was the team champion at the Interscholastic Equestrian League horse show at Atlasta Ranch in Newhall on Sunday.

Team reserve champion was Harvard-Westlake, which also won the team varsity competition. Lauren Robeck of Harvard-Westlake was the varsity high-point champion. La Reina was junior varsity team champion and Catherine Wright of Crossroads was high-point champion. Among freshmen, Angelia Hiranandanie of La Reina was high-point champion and Westridge was team champion.

In dressage, individual winners were Andrea Morilles of Agoura in varsity, Christy Schallau of Palos Verdes in junior varsity, Sullivan, Jonathan Chang of Crespi in freshman, and Meghan Parrot of Agoura in novice.

SOCCER

California’s John McDonald, a junior from Alemany High, and UCLA’s Pete Vagenas, a junior from St. Francis High, were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference men’s soccer team.

McDonald, a forward, was a second-team selection. Vagenas, a midfielder, made the third team.

Seth George, a senior forward for UCLA, and Simon Elliot, a senior midfielder for Stanford, were chosen co-players of the year. Dean Wurzberger of conference-champion Washington was coach of the year.

FOOTBALL

Ryan Autzoucatos, a senior running back for Agoura High, was left off the list of All-Marmonte League players released last week by the league’s coaches. Autzoucatos was a first-team selection on offense.

BASKETBALL

Travis Johnson, a 6-foot-4 junior defensive tackle for Notre Dame High’s football team, and junior quarterback Jonathon Brewster have decided not to play basketball this season.

Aaron Bobik, a sophomore projected to start at point guard for the Newbury Park High boys’ team, is expected to miss the season with a broken right wrist.

Older brother Brian Bobik, a senior, will play point guard as he did last season, Newbury Park Coach Steve Johnson said.
