Poly Makes Its Move After a 4-2 Victory

The Poly High boys’ soccer team scored three goals in the first half and held on for a 4-2 victory over North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game on Tuesday at North Hollywood.

The Parrots (8-1-3 overall and in conference) have 19 points, one behind Monroe (20) and one ahead of Reseda (18). Poly and Reseda have two games left, Monroe one.

Jose Gomez had two goals for Poly.

Jaime Gomez and Starling Barahona scored in the second half for North Hollywood (6-4-2, 6-4-2).

Monroe 3, Reseda 0--Freshman Danny Corrales scored three goals in the last 20 minutes and the Vikings (10-4-3, 9-2-2) knocked the defending champion Regents (11-2-3, 8-2-2) out of the Valley Pac-8 Conference lead.

Corrales was benched for about 15 minutes to start the second half. He has six goals in four games since moving to the area from Costa Rica.

Kennedy 9, Granada Hills 2--Jeremy Hetzel scored three goals and Alfonso Mora added two for the Golden Cougars (6-5-7, 3-3-5) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Kennedy.

Chatsworth 3, Taft 0--Jose Dominguez had three goals for the Chancellors (10-1-6, 5-1-6) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

Rio Mesa 2, Buena 1--Chris High scored the tying goal for the Spartans (13-5-4, 6-4-3) and Ivan Medina added the game-winner with 15 minutes left in a Channel League game at Buena.

Carlos Sanchez scored for Buena (13-4-3, 7-3-3).

Moorpark 2, Calabasas 1--Kyle Thompson’s second goal with 10 minutes left allowed the Musketeers (14-5-4, 9-0) to clinch their second consecutive Frontier League title at Calabasas.

Burroughs 2, Canyon 0--Miguel Meneses and Robbie Honicky scored for the Indians (13-3-5, 5-2-1), who closed in on the first-place Cowboys (14-6-1, 6-1-1) at Burroughs with two Foothill League games left.

Agoura 3, Channel Island 0--Bryan Pelto had 12 saves in his seventh shutout for the Chargers (11-11-1, 7-6) in a Marmonte League game.

Birmingham 5, San Fernando 1--Krissy Oakes scored four goals for the Braves (12-2-2, 7-0-1), increasing her school-record total to 32, in a West Valley League game at San Fernando.

Chatsworth 5, San Pedro 0--Beezy Preis scored twice for the Chancellors (19-1-1, 8-0) in a Coast-Valley Conference game at San Pedro.

Kennedy 2, Cleveland 1--Amiela Soohoo scored the winning goal in the 50th minute of a West Valley League game at Cleveland.

Jackie Sevilla had 12 saves for Kennedy (12-6-1, 6-2).

El Camino Real 2, Palisades 1--Melissa Cleal scored twice and Jennifer Brosky had eight saves for the Conquistadors in a Coast-Valley League game.

Nordhoff 7, Santa Clara 1--Jena Hunter had two goals for the Rangers (9-6-1, 5-3) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Buena 3, Rio Mesa 1--Amber Carr scored twice for the Bulldogs (16-4-3, 10-1-2) in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa.

Quartz Hill 3, Lancaster 0--Maury Cauchon recorded her 11th shutout and Shauna Murray had her 21st goal in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill (14-4-2, 8-0-1).

Crescenta Valley 9, Hoover 0--Rebecca Hidalgo scored three goals and Tiffany Cervenka added two for the Falcons (14-2-5, 7-0-2) in a Pacific League game at Crescenta Valley.
