TRACK AND FIELD

Marion Jones, the 1997 World champion in the women’s 100 meters, will run the 400 in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on April 19.

Jones, a nine-time state high school champion during her career at Rio Mesa and Thousand Oaks, was Track & Field News magazine’s 1997 women’s athlete of the year after ranking first in the World in both the 100 and 200 meters.

Although Jones has run the 400 infrequently during her career, she clocked 52.91 seconds in that event, 11.30 in the 100 and 23.06 in the 200 to win all three races in the 1991 Southern Section 3-A Division championships as a Rio Mesa sophomore.

Christina Tolson of Cal State Northridge has been honored as the Big Sky Conference field event athlete of the week for the second consecutive week.

Tolson, a sophomore, finished second in the women’s shotput with a Northridge indoor record of 51 feet 7 1/2 inches in the Bill Cosby Invitational in Reno last Saturday.

The mark topped the school best of 50-4 1/2 set by Tolson the previous week and moved her to second on the all-time conference performer list.
