A Timely Blast by Gustavsson Lifts Royal, 3-2

Share

Anders Gustavsson’s nickname on the Royal High boys’ soccer team is “Time Bomb” because the 5-foot-6 midfielder is continually wound up.

The junior went off at the right time Friday, scoring in the 109th minute to give the Highlanders a 3-2 victory over Palmdale in a Southern Section Division I first-round game at Royal.

Gustavsson’s goal was only his third of the season and came in the third overtime period. Royal advances to face Marmonte League-rival Thousand Oaks in a second-round game Tuesday. A coin flip will determine the host team.
