Giroux Lifts Eagles Past Dominguez

Norman Giroux scored three goals to lead Santa Margarita to a 4-2 victory over Compton Dominguez in a Division III boys’ soccer second-round playoff game Wednesday at Rancho Capistrano Park in San Juan Capistrano.

The victory advances the Eagles to the quarterfinals, where they’ll play Lakewood Artesia today at Rancho Capistrano Park.

Giroux, who will play for Notre Dame next season, scored two goals in the first half and Ryan Coiner had the other to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead.

It was Coiner’s 11th goal of the season and Giroux, who missed most of the season because of a knee injury, now has four.

Tim Pearce also got his 11th assist of the season for Santa Margarita, which outshot Dominguez, 24-4.

In Division IV:

Laguna Beach 4, Rancho Alamitos 1--Laguna Beach dominated the first half, scoring three goals in the second-round game. Bernardo Dealo and Tom Neptune had one goal each and Spencer Herbert scored two for the Artists. Rooz Ehdaie had three assists for Laguna Beach, which improved to 17-6-2.

Laguna Beach will travel to Pacific Coast League rival Estancia for today’s quarterfinal game. The Artists defeated Estancia in both meetings this season, and haven’t lost to the Eagles in six years.

Rancho Alamitos finishes the season 11-6-6.

In Division V:

Ventura St. Bonaventure 3, St. Margaret’s 0--St. Bonaventure (8-6-9) put an end to St. Margaret’s season in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. The Tartans finish 20-3-1.
