SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Ocean View’s Anne Lembke played to near perfection Wednesday night, almost single-handedly upsetting third-seeded Rosary, 50-41, in the Southern Section Division III-AA quarterfinals at Ocean View.

Lembke, a senior, scored 33 points, hitting 13 of 14 from the field and seven of nine from the free-throw line. She had 11 rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot. In the first half, she scored 20 of Ocean View’s 29 points, making eight of eight from the field. Her only mistake was two missed free throws at the end of the first half as her team took a 29-22 lead into the locker room.

“Every shot I see her take I expect her to make it,” Ocean View Coach Bill Seibert said. “I’m very surprised whenever she misses.”

Lembke, a 6-foot-2, center, is leading the county in field-goal percentage at 69%. And Wednesday, she dropped in shots from the top of the key, turnaround jumpers from 10 feet, putbacks under the net--she was everywhere.

“I just knew I had to be aggressive,” said Lembke, whose 33 points tied her season best. “It feels great to win. We were questioning ourselves before this game after being beaten by them twice.”

Ocean View (14-13) was not just beaten by Golden West League rival Rosary twice, they were demolished. They lost to the Royals by 17 points in the first meeting and by 23 in the second.

Rosary (16-12) took a 10-7 first-quarter lead, but 10 points by Lembke and three-pointers by senior Mara Sheppard and junior Kristin Mori, put the Seahawks up, 15-10, at the end of the quarter.

Rosary never led again. The closest the Royals came was 24-20 with 2:26 left in the first half.

Rosary has three players who average 12 points a game or better--Romina Bollini (14.2), Maggie Barnett (12.7) and Sarah Belavic (12.6). Ocean View held the trio to 23 points. Bollini had 13, Barnett six and Belavic four.
