Fremont boys’ basketball Coach Sam Sullivan will be going for his 400th victory on Friday when the Pathfinders travel to Huntington Park for a Southeastern Conference game.

Sullivan, in his 20th season, began the week with a record of 398-144, and the Pathfinders’ 96-64 victory over Garfield on Wednesday put him within one of the milestone.

“Every year at the end of each season I tally up the victories and write down on a sheet of paper the key players and where we stood when the season ended,” said Sullivan, who has guided Fremont to three of the school’s nine City Section titles. “Right before the start of the next season, I always pull out my notes to review. I didn’t realize until two weeks ago that I was this close to 400.”

Under Sullivan, a 1969 Fremont graduate, the Pathfinders are 91-3 in conference play the last seven years and have won six conference titles.

The Pathfinders were 4-A finalists in 1995.
