Paraclete Streaks Past Village Christian at the Finish

Paraclete High went on a 19-0 run in the final 4:30 to defeat Village Christian, 72-63, on Saturday night in a boys’ basketball game at Paraclete.

The Spirits (2-9), who trailed by 10 points entering the fourth quarter, scored their final 10 points on free throws.

Paraclete held Village Christian (4-10) to 10 points in the fourth quarter and shut down Paul Tait, who scored 28 points, in the final minutes.

Peter Cich had 14 points and Glenn Jones added 12 points and six assists for the Spirits.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Newbury Park 77, Agoura 54--Daniel Bobik had 28 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and five steals for the Panthers in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.

Mike Meru added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Newbury Park (13-4, 4-0).

Marcus Helfman had 14 points for the Chargers.

Holy Martyrs 57, Arrowhead Christian 52--Shant Bronsozian made six three-pointers and finished with 24 points for the Armens at Holy Martyrs.

Shaunt Choulakian added 16 points for the Armens (7-6).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Alemany 59, Artesia 41--The Indians (12-4) jumped to a 21-6 lead after one quarter and were not threatened at Artesia.

Kelli Kobayashi had 15 points and five assists, Karina Siam had 14 points and 15 rebounds and Kate Beckler added 13 points for Alemany.

Cornerstone Christian 74, Dunn 32--Julia Tamai scored 25 points and had six assists for the Eagles in a Condor League game at Cornerstone Christian.

Karri Becker added 23 points for Cornerstone Christian (5-5).

Paraclete 55, Village Christian 34--Jackie Kolesar scored 20 points and Christine Lambert added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Spirits (10-2) at Paraclete.

Arrowhead Christian 52, Holy Martyrs 40--Dezireh Sevanessian had 10 points and 13 rebounds but the Armens came up short at Holy Martyrs.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Magnolia 8, Westlake 0--The Warriors (4-7) finished the Western tournament in 11th place among 24 teams with a fifth-round loss in Anaheim.

Westlake 7, Western 4--Colleen Schiman scored four goals for the Warriors (4-6) in the fourth round of the Western tournament.

La Canada 8, Whittier 1--Coral Cozad scored three goals and Becky Hohan added two for the Spartans in the Western tournament.

Jennifer Song had four saves for the Spartans.

La Canada 10, Mira Costa 5--Becky Johan scored three goals for the Spartans in the Western tournament.

Cozad, Catherine Ellis and Ashley Myers each had two goals for La Canada.

Song had three saves.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Paraclete 2, Rosamond 1--Justin Hickman scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute to break a 1-1 tie for the Spirits in a High Desert League game at Rosamond.

Brad Griffiths scored for the Spirits (4-5-1, 1-0) in the first half but was ejected in the 45th minute for questioning an official’s call.
