Chatsworth Shows It’s Still Boss, 5-1

Share

The last time Chatsworth High and Granada Hills played in girls’ soccer, Chatsworth beat the Highlanders in last season’s City Section 4-A Division championship game behind three goals from Jackie Fodor.

On Thursday, the teams renewed acquaintances in a Coast-Valley League game and the Chancellors waltzed again, 5-1, as Fodor had three assists.

Chatsworth (13-1-1, 2-0 in league play) has not lost a league game in the program’s 10-year history and has won section titles in seven of nine seasons.

Despite a muddy field, the Chancellors continued their dominance, holding a 17-2 advantage in shots.

Heather Collins staked Chatsworth to a 2-0 halftime lead with goals in the 34th and 39th minutes.

The Chancellors took more than a dozen corner kicks in the half before connecting on one with Collins’ second goal.

Granada Hills scored in the 73rd minute when Michelle Vega took the Highlanders’ only corner kick of the game and it deflected into the net off teammate Amber Dattilo.

Chatsworth scored three goals in the final three minutes, leaving little doubt as to the gap that remains between the teams.

“They still have an edge over us in ball control and passing,” Granada Hills Coach Tom Harp said.

“They just keep coming at you.”

Fodor said the Chancellors’ late rally sent a message.

“I think they got excited [after the Granada Hills goal] because you know anything can happen in this weather,” Fodor said.

“We got a little pumped up and said let’s go out hard and put it away.”
