Moorpark Drops Pierce, 86-73, in Marmonte Reunion

Moorpark College’s 86-73 victory over Pierce in a Western State Conference women’s basketball interdivision game Saturday night had a Marmonte League flavor.

Graduates of four Marmonte members each scored in double figures for host Moorpark, which led, 56-37, at halftime.

Melissa Shoden (Newbury Park High) scored 20 points, Christina Mosesso (Simi Valley) and Rachel Rough (Royal) each had 14 and Alofa Tuimoloau (Channel Islands) scored 10 for Moorpark (13-7).

Freshman guard Cheryl Flores, who last season helped Bell-Jeff High win the Southern Section Division IV-AA championship, scored a game-high 28 points for Pierce (4-14).

Fresno Pacific 71, The Master’s 64--Elizabeth Hansell scored 13 points for The Master’s (5-12) in a nonconference game at Fresno Pacific (10-11).

Sara Scheffer and Corinne Wiseman each contributed 12 points for the Mustangs, who have lost 25 consecutive times to the Sunbirds.

Kate Charleston scored 19 points for Fresno Pacific, which snapped a five-game losing streak.

Valley 61, Hancock 55--Tanya McLaughlin had 29 points, including four three-pointers, and 10 rebounds for host Valley (12-8) in a WSC interdivision game.

Freshman Maricela Rodriguez added 11 points for the Monarchs, who used a full-court in the second half to force 13 turnovers, including 10 steals.

Valley got off to an 11-0 start, but the Bulldogs (9-13) rallied to tie the score, 23-23, at halftime.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Valley 80, Moorpark 62--Leon Brisport had 23 points and Germaine Chase had 17, for the Monarchs (16-5) in a WSC game at Valley.

Valley point guard Ronnie Noel, a former Simi Valley High standout, had two points, 10 assists and seven steals.

Moorpark dropped to 8-9.

Hancock 79, Canyons 70--Bryan Finley scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half but the Cougars (8-11) came up short in a WSC interdivision game at Canyons.

Antelope Valley 80, San Bernardino 66--Ziaire Williams had 18 points and nine rebounds and reserve center Le’Tre Kelly scored 17 points for host Antelope Valley (14-8) in a Foothill Conference interdivision game.

Point guard Trevor Beal finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for the Marauders.

Reserve guard Jerome Brooks had 25 points and 16 rebounds for San Bernardino (14-10).

Cal Lutheran 68, Redlands 54--Center Mike Salser had 24 points and 12 rebounds for host Cal Lutheran (5-8, 1-1) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.
