Royal 26, Ventura 20--Steve Sheehan scored three touchdowns and the Highlanders (1-2) built a 20-0 first-half lead at Royal. Sheehan caught scoring passes of five and 25 yards from Dustin Cruz and scored on a one-yard run.
Cruz completed 13 of 22 for 180 yards. Kevin Krause had eight catches for 121 yards.
The Cougars (1-2) rallied late in the second quarter on Tyler Ebell’s two-yard scoring run. Tino Guerri’s 13-yard touchdown on a blocked punt return pulled Ventura to within 23-14 at halftime.
