Falitz’s 10 Goals Power Burroughs

Jason Falitz scored four of his 10 goals in the third quarter and Burroughs High had three steals in the final three minutes to preserve a 16-14 victory over Brea Olinda in a quarterfinal game of the Rowland water polo tournament Friday in Rowland Heights. Burroughs (5-4) played without hole guard Alex Triandos, who was forced to sit out after being ejected from the Indians’ game Thursday against La Serna for a major foul.

Burroughs backup goalie Bart Bagdasaryn replaced Nick Triandos in the fourth quarter and made five saves. Julian Cambustion and Kenny Livas each scored two goals for the Indians.

In other water polo games:

Crescenta Valley 13, Nordhoff 2--Justin Payne scored four goals for the Falcons (6-3) in a pool-play game, sending Crescenta Valley to the semifinals of the Calabasas tournament.

Earlier, Justin Payne scored seven goals and Carlos Pelayo added six for Crescenta Valley in an 18-2 victory over Rio Mesa.

Nordhoff 9, Rio Mesa 4--Trevor Owens scored twice and goalie Dan Imporota made nine saves for Rio Mesa (2-7) in a pool-play game of the Calabasas tournament.

Rio Mesa trailed, 1-0, after the first quarter and played the Rangers close, but the Spartans had five goals nullified because of shot-clock violations and fouls.

Buena 16, San Marino 0--Keith Wilson, Dan Rector and Graham Hawkes each scored three goals for the Bulldogs (3-5) in a pool-play game in the Buena tournament.

Earlier, Hawkes scored four goals in Buena’s 8-5 loss to Arroyo Grande.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 17, Lakewood St. Joseph 1--Chelsea Heller and Katelyn Rader swept their sets in the Nos. 2 and 3 singles spots for Harvard-Westlake (6-0, 3-0) in a Mission League match at Lakewood Country Club.

La Reina 13, Royal 5--No. 2 singles player Samantha Hammond and the No. 2 doubles team of Erin Meister and Kathryn Meister each swept three sets to help the Regents (2-1) defeat Royal (4-3) in a nonleague match at Rancho Simi Community Park.

Pasadena Poly 16, La Canada 2--Sisters Dabney and Annie Lee won two of three sets at No. 3 doubles to give La Canada (2-3) its only victories against defending Southern Section Division V champion Pasadena Poly (7-0) in a nonleague match at La Canada Country Club.

University 4, El Camino Real 3--Hee Jo Chun and Anastasia Samofalova won at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for El Camino Real in a nonconference season opener in West L.A.

GIRLS’ GOLF

La Reina 139, Newbury Park 158--Jennifer Marshall and Tralee O’Hanlon each shot an 11-over-par 46, and Susanne Dunwell fired a 47 for the Regents (5-0) in a nonleague match at Los Robles Golf Course.

Julie McKenna of Newbury Park (2-5) earned medalist honors with a 42.
