* Blaine Bussey, who won the boys’ 400 meters for Taft High in the state championships in June, began school at Long Beach City College last week.

Bussey, a two-time City Section champion in the 400, set a region record of 46.3 in the Northwest Valley Conference finals in May.

He has a best of 21.56 in the 200 and finished second in the City championships in May.

BASKETBALL

* Point guard Elan Buller, a starter at Fresno Pacific last season from El Camino Real, has decided to transfer to Pepperdine, where he will try to make the team as a walk-on.

BASEBALL

* The Westhills winter high school baseball league has openings for teams and individual players. It begins Sept. 11.

GOLF

* Hana Kim of Encino shot 35-37--72 on Friday and is tied for third place in the girls’ division after the first round of the Ping Phoenix Junior Championship on the Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz.

Ina Kim, her sister, shot 36-39--75 and is tied for ninth.

Angela Rho of Fullerton is in the lead at 36-34--70.

Justin Ohye of Calabasas shot 35-35--70 and is tied for sixth in the boys’ division of the American Junior Golf Assn. event.

Anthony Kim of Studio City, who made the field in a qualifying round on Monday, is tied for 21st.

Ty Tryon, a 15-year-old high school freshman from Orlando, Fla., leads at 31-35--66.

* Jeremy Bovill of Agoura Hills shot three-over par 73 on Thursday to finish third in the fourth annual Jurupa Hills Junior Championship at Jurupa Hills Golf Course in Riverside.

Daniel Kim of Cerritos finished first at 69 followed by Derek Sipe of Yorba Linda at 73, who edged Bovill in a card-off.
