The scaled-down Magnolia tournament begins this morning. The two-day, 18-team tournament was originally scheduled for three days, but the Southern Section informed Magnolia Coach Rocky D’Amico that he had too many games scheduled for an 18-team tournament.
“We would have needed 24 teams to have another day of games,” D’Amico said. “We’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. We’re not happy. It’s not going to be right. We’ll just have to fix it for next year.”
Each team will play four round-robin games and there will be no semifinal or championship rounds. The team with the most victories and most points will be declared champion. Long Beach Poly, Brea Olinda and Kennedy are the favorites.
