* Former Hart pitcher Bobby Graves has been given his release from Oklahoma and is expected to transfer to Cal State Northridge.

* The Ventura County Coaches’ Assn. has selected Michael Falco of Agoura High as its player of the year in Division I, with Tyler Johnson of Newbury Park the pitcher of the year.

In Division II, Eric Smentek of Oak Park was chosen player of the year, with Tony Sulser of Calabasas the pitcher of the year.

* Second baseman Juan Guerrero of Poly has been chosen the East Valley League player of the year.

* Aaron Penberthy, a catcher from The Master’s College who was drafted by St. Louis in the 25th round of the amateur baseball draft earlier this week, signed Friday with the Cardinals, St. Louis regional scout Chuck Fick said.

According to Fick, Penberthy will report Monday to the Cardinals’ spring-training facility in Jupiter Beach, Fla.

Another Fick draftee, Justin Albertson of El Camino College and Beverly Hills High, also has signed and will go to Jupiter Beach on Sunday or Monday.

DIVING

* Cal State Northridge has signed Elisha Davis of Brighton, Mich., women’s swimming and diving Coach Sara Cassady said.

Davis helped Brighton High win three consecutive Kensington Valley League titles. She has bests of 256 points for six dives and 423 points for 11 dives.

Davis is the second diver to sign with the Matadors, joining Brooke Free of Federal Way, Wash.

Northridge also has signed three swimmers for the women’s team.

Freestylers Katie Cartmell of Dublin High and Lisa Cristol of Los Gatos Monte Sereno and butterfly and breaststroke specialist Megan Henry of Roseville Woodcreek committed earlier this spring.

TENNIS

* According to the Intercollegiate Tennis Assn., Glendale College will have the top male and female players next season.

Andy Roland, who was ranked fourth in the state in junior college singles and eighth in doubles with his partner, John Reading, was named the national junior college men’s player to watch by the ITA.

Rani Setiawati, who was ranked seventh in the state, was named national junior college women’s player to watch.

MISCELLANY
