Chick Epstein, golf coach at Birmingham High for 35 years, is conducting the Fairways Golf Camp for the 15th summer at Sepulveda Golf Complex in Encino.

The camp, for players 7-17, will run in two-week sessions until Aug. 27. Cost is between $375 and $450 per session.

Daily instruction for beginning, intermediate and advanced golfers lasts from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

“We teach them the basics, starting with grip, posture and stance,” Epstein said. “We start them on the chip swing and take them right through to the full swing. It’s amazing how good our beginners can play after two weeks.”

Mornings are devoted to station work and drills. After lunch, it’s time to hit the course. Each foursome has its own instructor.

Play is not confined to the Balboa and Encino golf courses at Sepulveda. Students travel occasionally to play on such courses at Woodley Lakes in Van Nuys, El Cariso in Sylmar, Vista Valencia, Camarillo Springs and Scholl Canyon in Glendale.
