Perugini Gets Winning Hit for Foothill

Eric Perugini’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Foothill a 6-5 victory over eighth-ranked Canyon in a Century League baseball game Friday.

Perugini’s single came with the scored tied, 5-5.

Canyon had scored three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead, but Foothill (4-3, 2-1) countered with a grand slam by Jon Stephens in the same inning. Stephens drove in five.

In other Century League games:

Santa Ana Valley 12, Orange 2 (5, mercy)--Alex Guzman pitched a three-hitter and Bryan Save went four for four and drove in five runs for the Falcons (4-6, 1-2). Guzman (3-0) threw only 59 pitches, striking out two and walking one. Save had two doubles--one that drove in two runs during a four-run second inning--a triple and a single, and teammate Tony Oseguera also had four hits. Orange fell to 2-8, 0-3.

Villa Park 6, El Modena 2--Jeff Tuttle hit a grand slam for Villa Park (4-5, 3-0).

In the Empire League:

No. 3 El Dorado 16, Kennedy 7--El Dorado answered Kennedy’s seven-run first inning with seven of its own in the first. Dan Franklin put the game away when he hit a grand slam in the sixth inning.

Katella 9, Century 0--Starter Jon Lorenzen struck out five in five innings and Carlos Pasillas had two RBIs for Katella. Mike Martinez had two hits for the host Knights (6-4, 2-1).

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 4, Ranch Alamitos 1--Senior Eric Davis had a two-run homer in the first inning for Garden Grove (5-5, 1-1). The home run was Davis’ fourth. Teammate Joe Rivers struck out seven and picked up his second victory.

Los Amigos 16, Santiago 9--Tim Millar, Raul Rodriguez and Jesus Rodarte each had three RBIs for visiting Los Amigos (10-0, 2-0).

In the Golden West League:

Saddleback 10, Santa Ana 8--Sal Pedroza had a triple and three RBIs and pitched a complete game to lead Saddleback (1-8, 1-2). Eric Perez hit a triple and a home run for Santa Ana (2-6, 0-3).

In the Olympic League:

No. 8 Calvary Chapel 7, Orange Lutheran 3--Pastor Perez struck out seven and allowed one hit in five innings for host Calvary Chapel (9-1, 2-0). He also went two for three with two RBIs.

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 11, Anaheim 8--John Pohlen had a home run and five RBI for the host Wildcats (7-3, 3-0). Travis Blood went three for four with two doubles and two runs scored.

Valencia 12, Savanna 5--Hector Ambriz went three for four with four RBIs and starter Matt Reese struck out five in six innings for visiting Valencia (6-4, 2-1).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 10, Laguna Beach 9 (8)--Miguel Burciaga’s home run in the eighth won it for visiting Estancia (2-6, 1-2). David Akiva went four for five with a homer and five RBIs, and C.K. Green was four for five with a home run and three RBIs for the Eagles.

University 3, Aliso Niguel 2 (9)--Andy Dennis, who had four hits, knocked in the winning run with the bases loaded in bottom of ninth for host University (3-4-1, 2-0-1).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 6, Irvine 4--Matt Larson hit a grand slam and Alex Bottom hit a two-run homer in the second inning to lead host Corona del Mar (5-3, 2-1). Ty Harper struck out six and walked two in a complete game for the Sea Kings.

El Toro 5, Woodbridge 3--Eric Walsh hit a two-out grand slam in the first inning and Josue Lopez hit a homer in the sixth for host El Toro (5-3, 2-1). Starter Brian Hughes pitched five innings and struck out seven for the Chargers.

In the South Coast League:

No. 1 Mater Dei 4, Mission Viejo 0--Josh Hansen went two for three and drove in the game-winning run during Mater Dei’s four-run sixth inning. Nick Lovato struck out 10 in a complete game for the host Monarchs (6-1, 3-0).

Dana Hills 7, Capistrano Valley 6--Brent Petre scored from second on a throwing error to give Dana Hills a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning. Paul Hindman went three for four, including a three-run homer, for the Dolphins (5-3, 1-2).

In the Sunset League:

No. 8 Los Alamitos 3, Fountain Valley 2--A two-out RBI single by junior first baseman Nick Fitzgerald in the top of the fifth proved to be the game-winner for Los Alamitos (6-4, 3-0).

Marina 6, Huntington Beach 2--Senior right-hander Brian Lockhart pitched a four-hitter for Marina (3-5, 1-2).
