Golden League Again Belongs to Quartz Hill

Quartz Hill High clinched its fourth consecutive Golden League softball championship, and eighth in the last nine years, by beating Highland, 3-2, in eight innings on Thursday at Quartz Hill.

Sara Moore singled and scored from first base on Sayoko Rutledge’s two-out, game-winning double.

Jodie Cox (21-1) scattered eight hits and struck out 12 for the Rebels (22-1, 8-0). Rutledge and Kellie Cox each had two hits.

Melissa Rawson’s two-run single gave Highland (14-10, 5-3) a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

Natalie Rawson had three hits.

Lancaster 11, Littlerock 1--Pam Dean hit a grand slam and knocked in six runs in a Golden League game at Lancaster called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

Marciea Ball (2-6) struck out seven and allowed three hits for Lancaster (6-10, 4-4).

Saugus 3, Valencia 2--Allie Walling’s single drove in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning in a Foothill League game.

Saugus (12-9-1, 7-1) tied the score, 2-2, on Jennifer McLarty’s two-out hit in the seventh.

McLarty and teammate Katie Hoggatt each had three hits.

Hart 1, Burroughs 0--Lindsey Kontra pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 for Hart (18-4-1, 7-1) in a Foothill League game at Olive Park in Burbank.

Jocelyn Evans drove in the run with a single in the fifth inning.

Canyon 6, Burbank 3--Justina Kahaku drove in three runs and teammate Kim Thomas had two hits and one RBI in a Foothill League game at Canyon (10-12, 3-5).

Janet Ryan had two hits for Canyon and Lacey Rohr had two hits for Burbank (8-13, 0-8).

Crescenta Valley 13, Glendale 0--Meredith Cervenka (17-5) pitched her sixth no-hitter of the season, striking out eight and walking two in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

Annemarie Blodgett had three hits and two RBIs and Melanie McCauley had three hits and one RBI.

Crescenta Valley (18-5, 8-0) has won nine consecutive games.

Hoover 9, Pasadena 1--Cori Herbert (14-7) pitched her 19th career no-hitter, striking out 17 and walking none, in a Pacific League game at Hoover (14-7, 5-3). Herbert had a perfect game through six innings.

Simi Valley 5, Westlake 3--Brittney Green and Jenni Shields each had three hits for the Pioneers (14-8, 5-5) in a Marmonte League victory at Westlake (18-5, 7-3).

Newbury Park 5, Moorpark 0--Darlene Stokx hit a three-run triple in the third inning and teammate Nancy Pabon had three hits in a Marmonte League game at Borchard Park.

Katie Stokx (13-4) and Alyson Blum combined on a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks for Newbury Park (19-6, 9-2).

Stokx gave up a second-inning single to Tara Barker and Blum allowed a seventh-inning single to Jennifer Dye.

Royal 8, Agoura 1--Amber Mills had four RBIs in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Mills hit a three-run triple in the third and a run-scoring triple in the seventh.

Royal is 13-13, 4-6.

Melissa Fetman and Diana Pagan each had two hits for Agoura (6-12, 1-10).

Oak Park 3, Fillmore 0--Dana Porter (8-1) gave up four hits and struck out 12 for Oak Park (17-4-1, 7-1) in a Tri-Valley League game at Valley View Park in Agoura Hills.

Melissa Johnson hit a two-run single in the fifth inning.

La Reina 31, Carpinteria 0--Kristen Ward (9-4) pitched a perfect game with eight strikeouts in a Tri-Valley League game at Carpinteria called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
