So-So Season Ends For Matadors, 15-7

The Cal State Northridge baseball team completed its first losing season in four years Wednesday, dropping its season finale to Loyola Marymount, 15-7, at Northridge.

Matt Riordon, a former standout at Westlake High, had two doubles, a home run and drove in six runs for Loyola (29-24). Kurt Fiore had a three-run home run for the Lions. Chris Gray (4-5), a former standout at Chaminade, pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief.

Northridge (27-29), plagued by injuries this season, had 14 hits. Freshman J.T. Stotts, who returned at midseason from a broken ankle, had three hits and finished the season with a team-high .400 batting average.

Dan Phillips had four hits and drove in three runs for Northridge.

Northridge was 28-29 in 1995, the last season Bill Kernan coached. The Matadors’ four-year record under Mike Batesole is 158-86-1.
