Lakewood Mayfair 47, Canyon 7--Senior running back Michael Williams rushed 12 times for 134 yards before he and the entire first string left the game midway through the third quarter for host Mayfair.
“Everybody played well. Things really came together tonight,” said Mayfair quarterback Drew Gonzalez, who completed nine of 14 passes for 94 yards. “Physically, we’re more solid than Canyon and that gave us a big advantage.”
Two minutes into the game, Mike Bragg returned a Canyon punt 55 yards for a touchdown.
Canyon fumbled the ball on its next possession and Mayfair recovered on the Comanches’ 16-yard line.
Two plays later, Mayfair scored again on a 10-yard run by Craig Garcia.
The Comanches (3-8) scored in the first quarter on a six-yard pass by Jason Taylor but mistakes by Canyon led to five fumbles.
Mayfair (11-0) scored twice at the end of the third quarter to dash any comeback hopes by Canyon.
