VALLEY / VENTURA COUNTY SPORTS : DIGEST : SOFTBALL
Megan Petersen of Northridge, a former all-league player at L.A. Baptist High, will transfer from Iowa to Cedarville (Ohio) College, an NAIA school near Dayton.
Petersen was 7-3 with a 1.59 earned-run average for the Hawkeyes. She was 15-2 and batted .433 at L.A. Baptist her senior season.
“While I still have the desire to play softball, my relationship to God is more important,” Petersen said. “I want to attend a Christian institution and I’m very excited about what Cedarville has to offer.”
ADMINISTRATION
The lower of two playoff tournaments in all City Section sports will be called the City Invitational rather than the City Division, the Interscholastic Athletics Committee determined Tuesday.
The City Championship tournament includes the top 16 seeded teams. The Invitational will include teams seeded 17th through 32nd.
The finals of both tournaments in each sport will continue to be held at the same location. A proposal to do away with the Invitational will be considered in May.
