Woodland Blaze Burns 210 Acres

A forest fire that authorities believe was started by an out-of-control campfire scorched 210 acres north of Saugus before being contained Friday morning, said U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Randi Jorgensen.

“The Forest Service is still investigating,” Jorgensen said. “No arrests have been made.”

No buildings were destroyed in the fire that was reported about 2:45 p.m. Thursday, but two firefighters were injured; one was cut by a chain saw and the other suffered labored breathing, Jorgensen said. Both required treatment at area hospitals, she said.

At the height of the blaze, about 200 Forest Service and Los Angeles County firefighters were on the scene, assisted by four helicopter crews.
