Victory by Westlake Is Double-Barreled

Joshua Kuai and Jackson Ellis won, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 2 doubles and Westlake High clinched the Marmonte League title with a 13-5 victory over Thousand Oaks on Friday at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village.

Alex Sundling and Aaron Bert swept for Westlake (14-0, 11-0 in league competition) at No. 3 doubles.

Thousand Oaks (11-4, 8-3), ranked No. 4 in the region by The Times, played without junior ace Philip Sheng, who is competing in the Easter Bowl Junior Tennis Championships in Palm Springs.

Andrew Lieu filled in, sweeping three sets at No. 1, including a 7-6 (7-3) victory over Alex Yaftali, Westlake’s No. 1 player.

The teams tied, 9-9, in their last meeting March 22. Westlake, ranked No. 2 in the region by the Times, won on games, 80-67.

Harvard-Westlake 15, Notre Dame 3--Greg Sher and Chris Hom swept their doubles matches, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for the Wolverines in a Mission League victory at Studio City Golf and Tennis.

Chris Shepherd won two of three singles matches for Harvard-Westlake (17-3, 9-0), losing to Ted Hall.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

Royal 98, Thousand Oaks 87--Justin Clure won two individual events and was part of two winning relays at Rancho Simi Park for the Highlanders (4-2, 4-0), who won the Marmonte League dual-meet championship for the first time since 1982.

McClure won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:09.6, the 100 backstroke in 58.7 seconds, and swam the backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay and the anchor leg of the 400-freestyle relay.

Chris Andelin of Royal won the 50 and 100 freestyles, and swam the freestyle leg of the 200 medley relay.

BOYS’ GOLF

Chaminade 190, Crespi 194--Devin Shehab ishot even-par 34 for the Eagles in a Mission League victory at Westlake Golf Course.
