Thousand Oaks Benefits From Kegley’s Marksmanship, 78-56

Kyle Kegley of Thousand Oaks High was so hot shooting the ball in the second quarter Monday night, he could have blown on his fingers like a gunslinger.

Kegley scored 10 consecutive points en route to a 29-point performance in the Lancers’ 78-56 victory over Harvard-Westlake in the first round of the Thousand Oaks basketball tournament.

Kegley, who averaged 18.2 points last season, made five three-point baskets.

The Lancers (1-0) also received a strong performance from Ben Olson, who had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Harvard-Westlake fell to 1-1.

In other Thousand Oaks tournament games:

Newbury Park 79, Oxnard 69--Aaron Bobik had 24 points, nine rebounds and six steals, and Adam Carlson added 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Panthers (4-1).

Nicholas Curtis scored 21 points for Oxnard (3-2).

Lompoc 76, Grant 75--Turnovers caused the Lancers (0-1) to blow a 10-point lead and lose on a layup by Brad Steinke with four seconds left. Mike Charleston had 25 points and 15 rebounds, and DeWayne Anderson added 19 points for Grant.

Crespi 61, Oak Park 35--Kingsley Anyanwu scored 10 of his 17 points in the third quarter as Crespi (3-1) broke open a close game and pulled away from the Eagles (0-2).

Allan Ellis added 15 points for the Celts.
