Last-Second Basket Lifts Sylmar, 57-55

Earnest Williams made an off-balance jump shot with three seconds to play, lifting Sylmar High over Houston Christian, 57-55, in a first-round game of the Las Vegas Holiday Classic boys’ basketball tournament Monday.

Sam Harris scored 13 points for Sylmar (2-4) in the Millennium Division game.

George O’Garra added 12 points and John Valdez scored 11 for the Spartans.

Aaron Morales and Greg Lewis each scored 11 points for Houston Christian (10-2).

In other Las Vegas tournament games:

Crescenta Valley 60, Bonanza 57--James Jenkins made eight of 17 shots and scored 21 points for the Falcons (12-0) in a Gold Division game.

Chris Tarne added 18 points for Crescenta Valley, ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.

Montclair Prep 52, Basic (Nev.) 36--Eric Kaufman had 11 points and Derek Daniels had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Mounties (4-3) in a Bronze Division victory.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Notre Dame 64, Campbell Hall 45--Cody Pearson had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Michael Luderer added 16 points for the Knights (5-0), ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, in a nonleague game at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame begins play Wednesday in the Mission Prep tournament at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, playing Modesto Calvary Chapel in the first round.

Grant 68, Bell-Jeff 65--Gino Raney made two free throws with one second left in overtime to give the Lancers (6-1) a semifinal victory in the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Mike Charleston led Grant with 25 points and Raney added 22. Casey Markovic had 29 points and 15 rebounds for Bell-Jeff (7-3).

Verdugo Hills 56, Kennedy 55--Luis Perales scored 14 points, including a layup at the buzzer, to give the Dons (1-8) a pool-play victory in the Bell-Jeff tournament.

Danny Castro had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Verdugo Hills, which finished with a 21-7 run.

La Canada 76, San Diego Army-Navy 54--Billy Hofman had 19 points, eight assists and eight steals for the Falcons (7-1) in a pool-play victory in the La Canada tournament.

La Canada advances to Thursday’s semifinals against defending state Division III champion Bishop Montgomery.

Moorpark 94, St. George (Canada) 52--Ron Russ made nine of 12 shots, including four three-pointers, en route to 25 points for the Musketeers (6-0) in a La Canada tournament pool-play game.

Alemany 74, Canyon 54--Evan Cline scored 31 points for Alemany (3-5) in a nonleague game at Canyon.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Oxnard 62, Lompoc 32--Sienna Abraham had 15 points and eight rebounds for host Oxnard (2-4) in a nonleague game. Tiffany Walker and Sarah Queen each added 11 points.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Rio Mesa 5, Buena 1--Jimmy Heathcote and Kota Taniyama each scored two goals for host Rio Mesa (6-3-2) in a nonleague game.
