Santa Ana Calvary Chapel Back on Top in Division I

If the loss of Santa Ana Calvary Chapel’s top wrestler was a blow to the team, it wasn’t apparent Saturday as the Eagles recaptured the Division I title in the Southern Section dual meet championships at Villa Park.
Wrestling without 140-pounder Tony Aparicio, the top-seeded Eagles easily advanced through the quarter and semifinal rounds to defeat Brawley Union, 50-15, in the finals.
Aparicio, a senior transfer from Anaheim Loara, was dismissed from school Wednesday because of disciplinary problems.
Unseeded Brawley Union advanced to the final after a come-from-behind, 39-30 victory over defending champion Temecula Valley, the second-seeded team.
But Brawley’s victory high was quickly snuffed as Calvary Chapel won 11 of 14 matches.
