Littlerock Rolls to First Playoff Victory, 52-40

Varsity seasons have come and gone at Littlerock High since 1991.

Football, basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, soccer--you name it and they have one thing in common.

No playoff victories in any of them.

That changed Friday night.

Littlerock won a playoff game for the first time in school history, defeating Buena Park, 52-40, in a first-round game of the Southern Section Division II-AA boys’ basketball playoffs at Littlerock.

Gene Myvett scored 28 points, Frank Robinson added 16 and the Lobos (20-7) finally tasted postseason victory.

“It’s an honor,” said Myvett, who scored the final points of the game on an alley-oop pass from Justin Berkley, a fitting end to nearly a decade of playoff frustration for Littlerock.

“It took so long for us to get there. My high school career could end any time, so I’ve got to work hard and keep living this.”

Littlerock plays Santa Margarita in the second round Tuesday at a site to be determined by a coin flip today.

Buena Park (12-15) bothered Littlerock all game long with a full-court press and was within 38-36 a minute into the fourth quarter.

But the Lobos finally found holes in the Buena Park defense, with Robinson and Myvett scoring on transition plays to give Littlerock a 42-36 lead.
