Top-Seeded Pacifica Beats South Hills

Tami Fipps and Diana DeAugustine scored second-half goals to give top-seeded Pacifica a 2-0 quarterfinal victory over West Covina South Hills in the Southern Section Division III girls’ soccer playoffs.

Krista Houston had two saves to record her third shutout of the playoffs for the visiting Mariners (23-1-3). Pacifica plays Lakewood Mayfair in a semifinal game Tuesday.

In another Division III game:

Atascadero 3, El Modena 2--Ashley Clift’s goal off a rebound in the 46th minute put visiting El Modena up, 2-1, but Atascadero scored the next two goals to win. The Vanguards finished 17-6-2.

In Division I:

Capistrano Valley 3, Upland 0--Top-seeded Capistrano Valley had little trouble with the Highlanders. Haleigh Roach, Megan Abbamonto and Kristen Moore scored goals for the Cougars (23-1), who host Arcadia in a semifinal game.

Esperanza 4, Chino Hills Ayala 1 (OT)--Heather Jablonsky scored on a penalty kick with less than five minutes left in regulation to tie the score at 1-1 for Esperanza. The Aztecs (19-6-2) then scored three goals in the extra period, two by Janelle Raaff, to advance to a semifinal game at third-seeded Claremont.

In Division IV:

North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake 6, Laguna Beach 0--Imani Dorsey and Molly Cahan each scored two goals for the Wolverines.

Corona del Mar 2, La Canada 1--Second-seeded Corona del Mar took the lead on an own goal by La Canada. The Sea Kings, who secured the victory on Jennifer Long’s goal in the 70th minute, will play third-seeded Chaminade at a site to be determined.

In Division I boys’ soccer:

Lynwood 1, Santa Ana 0--Host Lynwood scored in the 25th minute on a header off a free kick from 30 yards. Santa Ana finishes 15-6-1.

In Division II:

Mater Dei 2, Ventura Buena 0--Midfielder Mark Thornberry scored in the 22nd minute and forward Randy Poggio scored his fourth goal in three games for visiting Mater Dei. A coin flip will determine the location of today’s quarterfinal game against Simi Valley Royal.

In Division III:

Santiago 2, La Puente 0--Gerardo Montano scored in the first half off an assist from Angel Rivera, and Gustavo Valencia scored in the second half off an assist by Oscar Juarez. Santiago (17-4-4) plays Calabasas in a quarterfinal game today.
