Geoff Carter, who led the Los Alamitos boys’ tennis team to five consecutive Sunset League titles, has resigned.
“I did about all I could do at Los Alamitos,” said Carter, who compiled an 89-11 record in five seasons. “Last year’s team was about the best we’ve ever had.”
Los Alamitos finished 20-2 but lost to Woodbridge, 10-8, in last year’s Division I semifinals. Carter’s two best players on last year’s team, Cody Jackson and Drew Hoskins, are gone. Jackson received a tennis scholarship to Rice and Hoskins left for a tennis academy in San Antonio.
Carter, who has a teaching credential, has taken a job at a corporate recruiting service.
Los Alamitos Athletic Director Rob Wigod said he tried to talk Carter into staying.
“We would have loved to hire Geoff as a teacher if we could have done it,” Wigod said. “I know that’s what he wanted to do. He’s done a tremendous job.”
