San Jose Eliminates Santa Ana Women
Santa Ana was held to a season low in points as the Dons lost to San Jose, 70-45, in the quarterfinal round of the community college state women’s basketball tournament Thursday at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.
Atari Parker, who was averaging 28 points, was held to 10 and missed all seven three-pointers she tried.
Lisa Arcangel finished with a team-high 12 points for Santa Ana (30-3), which had set a single-season record for victories.
Santa Ana, which had shot 40% from the field this season, made only 20 of 80 shots.
Brianne Prescott scored 23 points, making five of 13 three-pointers for San Jose (29-6).
In Orange Empire Conference baseball:
Golden West 15, Fullerton 8 (10 innings)--Ty Harper had four hits, including a home run and two doubles, and drove in three runs as visiting Golden West (10-7, 2-3) erupted for seven runs in the top of the 10th inning to win it.
Shaun Beutner went four for four with a double and two RBIs for Fullerton.
Santa Ana 9, Riverside 6--Carlos Pasillas hit a grand slam in the seventh to tie the score, 6-6, then added a two-run double in the eighth to put the Dons ahead.
Jeff Groeger (2-0) pitched the eighth inning to get the victory and Ron Aparicio worked the ninth to get his second save for Santa Ana (15-1-2, 4-1-1). First-place Riverside is 15-2-1, 4-1.
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Fullerton 6, Irvine Valley 2--Lisa Schiro tripled home three runs in the second for first-place Fullerton (21-2, 6-0), which got a three-hit pitching performance from Sam Veronesi (5-0). Irvine Valley is 0-6 in conference play.
In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:
Saddleback 8, Orange Coast 1--Jon Lippert won his match at No. 4 singles and teamed with Brock Berry to win at No. 1 doubles for Saddleback (5-0). Orange Coast’s Shatgi Chemitiganti won at No. 3 singles for the Pirates’ only point.
