Peet Paces Cougars Past San Clemente

Casey Peet’s one-over-par 36 at Marbella helped No. 6 Capistrano Valley to a 189-210 victory over No. 4 San Clemente in South Coast League boys’ golf Tuesday.

Matt Williams, who birdied the par-five fifth hole, joined teammate Chris Quinley to finish with a 37 for the Cougars (6-1, 1-0).

In Garden Grove League boys’ golf:

Orangewood Academy 223, Los Amigos 264--Zachary Jones shot a six-over 42 to lead Orangewood Academy (4-0, 2-0) at Mile Square Park.

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 181, St. Margaret’s 204--Freshman Paul Imondi shot a one-under 34, including three birdies at Willowick to lead Orange Lutheran (2-3, 1-0).

In Pacific Coast League:

Costa Mesa 190, Estancia 199--Jeff Montoya had two bogeys and three birdies as he shot a one-under 34 at Mesa Linda golf course for host Costa Mesa (5-1, 1-0).

In the Sea View League:

No. 5 Woodbridge 195, Laguna Hills 212--Medalist Nate Yates birdied the par-five first hole for host Woodbridge (5-1, 1-0), on his way to a one-over 37 at Rancho San Joaquin.

In Sunset League boys’ swimming:

No. 8 Fountain Valley 121, Huntington Beach 48--Jack Yarbrough won the 200 freestyle (1 minute 58.2 seconds), the 100 freestyle (53.29) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team for Fountain Valley (5-0, 1-0).

Brandon Dotts had two Southern Section Division I qualifying times, with victories in the 50 freestyle (22.75) and the 500 freestyle (4:54.10).

Edison 96, Marina 90--Edison’s Avery Wickham and Corey Fleetwood’s second and third finish in the 500 freestyle was a key score for visiting Edison (2-0, 1-0). Freshman Cody Tague won the 200 freestyle (1:53.18) and 100 butterfly (58.96) and was on Edison’s winning 200 freestyle relay.

In the South Coast League:

Dana Hills 113, No. 10 Mission Viejo 57--Dana Hills took advantage of a depleted Diablo team as James Leishman won the 50 freestyle, was second in the 100 freestyle and was on the Dolphin’s winning 200 medley and 400 relay team.

Mission Viejo, the defending Southern Section Division I champion, was without many of its top swimmers, who were at Junior Nationals in Alaska.

In South Coast League girls’ swimming:

No. 4 Mission Viejo 112, Dana Hills 56--Lindsey Hartman won the 200 individual medley (2:14.33), the 100 freestyle (56.94), and swam the first leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay for Mission Viejo.

In South Coast League girls’ swimming.

No. 8 San Clemente 91, No. 9 Capistrano Valley 79--Sarah Jones finished with Southern Section qualifying times in the 100 butterfly (1:00.91) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.36) and won both races and Kristen Caverly won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.18) and 500 freestyle (5:05.18) for San Clemente.

In the Pacific Coast League boys’ tennis:

No. 2 University 18, Costa Mesa 0--Aaron Yovan swept his singles sets without losing a game for visiting University (5-0, 2-0). The Trojans lost four games in the 12 singles sets.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

No. 7 Sunny Hills 9, Palm Springs 9 (Sunny Hills wins on games, 75-71)--No. 1 Joseph Kao gave up only three games in a match decided by points as he swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, for host Sunny Hills (5-3).

Palos Verdes Peninsula 14, No. 6 Dana Hills 4--Goh Fukagaki won in singles 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 and Pege Sullivan and Chris Delaney swept in doubles 6-2, 6-1, 6-4, for the Panthers.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Cypress 3, Valencia 1--Zane Bermundo had 18 kills and Brian Morris had 12 to lead visiting Cypress (5-0) to a 15-5, 12-15, 15-11, 15-7 victory.

Brian Bartczak had 18 kills for Valencia (5-1).
