Pierce 12, Cerro Coso 3--Nick Browne and Josh Miranda each had two home runs and four RBIs for Pierce during the first game of a best-of-three series in the Junior College Southern California Regional playoffs at Ridgecrest.

The home runs were the first of the season for Miranda, who hit a three-run shot in a five-run eighth inning. Browne has 10 homers.

Doug Slaten (10-2) pitched eight innings, striking out seven and giving up two earned runs.

Game two is at 11 a.m. today at Cerro Coso. Game three, if necessary, will follow.
