Wiesener, Stern Advance in Section Tennis

Lori Stern of Cate School and Monica Wiesener of Calabasas High advanced to the round of 16 in the Southern Section individual girls’ tennis tournament Saturday at Agoura High.

Top-seeded Stern, who lives in Ojai, defeated Erin Everly of Calabasas, 6-2, 6-1, in the third round, following a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Lindsey Steele of Santa Barbara, and a first-round bye.

Wiesener, who defeated Everly for the Frontier League singles title two weeks ago, advanced with a 7-5, 7-6 (6), 6-3 victory over Jessica Leck of Harvard-Westlake and a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Cheyenne Reveche of Campbell Hall after a first-round bye.

Everly defeated Daron Moore of Campbell Hall in the second round, 6-2, 6-2, and beat Falon Lopez of Oxnard, 6-4, 6-0, in the first round.

Moore beat Rhianna Fisher-Ortiz of Santa Maria St. Joseph, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round.

Celia Durkin and Andrea Leewong of Calabasas moved to the round of 16 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Taylor Lehman and Heidi Treadwell of Buena.

Lauren Gaona and Michelle Alvarez of Camarillo scored a 1-6, 6-2, 10-7 victory over Lori Robles and Gretchen Anrad of Santa Maria.

The tournament continues Nov. 30 at The Claremont Club in Claremont.

* Brooke Borisoff of Agoura Hills advanced in two divisions of the Southern California Junior Doubles sectional tournament Saturday at Los Caballeros Racquet and Sports Club in Fountain Valley.

Borisoff and Lauren Perl of San Diego, seeded fourth, upended second-seeded Erica Sauer of Somis and Riza Zalameda of Los Angeles, 7-5, 6-2, in the girls’ 18 semifinals.

Borisoff and Brian Morton of Costa Mesa, seeded second in mixed doubles, beat Kelly Pfister and Jordan Widelock of Bakersfield, 6-1, 6-1, in a quarterfinal match.

Borisoff and Perl play Brittany Reitz of Newport Beach and Anne Yelsey of Corona del Mar for the girls’ 18 title at 9:30 a.m. today.

Borisoff and Morton play in the mixed doubles semifinals at 12:15 p.m. The final is at 3:15 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Andrew Lieu of Thousand Oaks and Arpi Kojian of Santa Ana advanced to the 18 mixed doubles semifinals with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mark Contreras of Temple City and Michelle Stewart of Pasadena.

BASEBALL

* Shortstop Tim Cantu of Alemany High has signed with Long Beach State.

Cantu, who battled injuries as a junior, played well last summer at the Area Code Games, attracting attention from college and professional scouts.
