Lotta Wins Southern Section Golf Title

Karen Lotta of Los Angeles Marymount High shot two-under-par 70 Tuesday at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs and won the Southern Section Individual Golf Championship.

Lotta finished three strokes ahead of Amie Cochran of West Torrance, Carling Cho of Dana Hills and Priscilla Park of Villa Park.

Rebecca Norris of Thousand Oaks, who shot 77 and tied for 14th, was the top finisher from the Valley/Ventura County region.

Mayumi Kobayashi of Notre Dame, Nikki Shum of Rio Mesa and Emma Stachowicz of Harvard-Westlake tied for 20th in a field depleted by a scheduling conflict with an American Junior Golf Assn. tournament in Orlando, Fla.

Junior All-Americans Ina Kim of Harvard-Westlake, Erica Blasberg of Corona, Elena Kurakawa of Redondo Union and Stella Lee of Irvine all made the trip to Florida, along with three others who finished in the top 15 in the Southern Section a year ago.

In all, 10 players skipped the Southern Section final to play in Florida.

The top 40 finishers advanced to the CIF-WSCGA Championships Nov. 29 at the SCGA Members Club in Murrieta. Nikki Imaromna of Notre Dame and Moah Chang of Burbank also advanced. Imaromna shot 81 and tied for 28th, Chang shot 83 and tied for 35th.
